Two in a Row

The softball team won two competitive games against Hawai’i Pacific and will play them twice again tomorrow.

KANEOHE, Hawai'i---The Biola softball team picked up their second win of the day against Hawai'i Pacific. The Eagles scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to beat HPU, 2-1.

Kayla Bousquette threw her second complete game of the season, improving 4-1 overall in the circle. Bousquette threw two 1-2-3 innings and three strikeouts in a close game against the Sharks. Bousquette gave up seven hits in what was a great outing for the Freshman.

Biola broke their stalemate with Hawai'i Pacific in the fifth inning. Colby McClinton doubled to lead off the inning and was pushed to third by a situational grounder by Abie Nowak. Raylene Roybal then clutched up with a double that easily scored McClinton, giving BU their first run, 1-0.

The Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth inning. With one out, Bridgette Trujillo was hit by HPU's pitcher, giving them a base runner. Rilee Ruvalcaba then singled to right center which was enough to get Trujillo all the way over to third base. Jennifer Morninishi then knocked in Biola's insurance run with a base hit to center, 2-0.

The Sharks made it interesting in the seventh where they began the inning with a double. Bousquette buckled down and forced the next two batters to pop up, but HPU's next batter would hit a game-changing double, successfully scoring their first run (2-1). Bousquette kept her composure on the mound and forced the next Hawai'i Pacific batter to line out which would end the game in Biola's favor, 2-1.

The Eagles and Sharks will go back at it tomorrow Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 3 and 5:30 p.m.
