Eagles Win Game 1

The softball team won the first part of their doubleheader against Hawai’i Pacific 3-2 at Howard A. Okita Field.

KANEOHE, Hawai'i---The Biola softball team inflicted their damage in the second inning where they scored three runs off of five hits. The Eagles would hold off the Sharks for the remainder of the game and win the first game of the day's doubleheader 3-2.

Raylene Roybal led off the second inning for Biola with a double to right center and was scored in the next at-bat when Kaitlyn Hawkins executed a single to right field. The excitement continued when Brie Nowak doubled to left field which advanced Hawkins to third.

The Eagles then received their first out, but was quickly picked up by a Rilee Ruvalcaba single to center that scored BU's second run, 2-0.

Allie Beck then laid down a sacrifice bunt that gave Biola their second out and moved runners into scoring position. Jennifer Morinishi came up next and poked a single to the left side that scored the Eagles final run of the inning, 3-0.

Hawai'i Pacific rallied back in the bottom of the fourth where they scored two runs off of three hits, but they wouldn't be able to get the tying run across in what would eventually be Biola's 3-2 victory.

Roybal threw the entire game where she allowed seven hits. Roybal's victory in the circle gives her a 6-1 record for the Eagles.

Biola improved 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest while Hawai'i Pacific dropped 3-9 and 0-1 in the conference.

The Eagles and Sharks are facing off again, now, for the second part of the day's doubleheader.
