Eagles Shutout Silverswords

The softball team came back strong with a 5-0 shutout against Chaminade.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i--- The Biola softball team finished their series against Chaminade strong, recording a 5-0 shutout over the Silverswords to win the series.

Kayla Bousquette threw the first shutout of her career and received her third win of the season, improving 3-1. Bousquette efficiently kept the Silverswords off-balanced with 12 flyouts and six grounders. She also tossed three 1-2-3 innings and had three strikeouts in Biola's win.

And while Bousquette was firing away in the circle, the Eagles were backing her up on offense. Biola jumped ahead with a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Rilee Ruvalcaba singled to begin the inning and was advanced to second from a sacrifice bunt by Allie Beck who reached first off a Silversword error. Jennifer Morinishi then singled to load the bases. Colbey McClinton came up next with a base-hit to right center that scored two, 2-0.

CUH came back with their first out, but Biola would score one more run from a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Hawkins before the Silverswords would get the final two outs (3-0).

After a big third inning by Biola, Chaminade would hold them scoreless until the top of the seventh where BU scored some more insurance runs. Loren Meza tripled to score BU's first run and Hailey Paull singled to score Biola's final run in their 5-0 victory. Both Meza and Paull recorded their first RBI's of the season in the great ending of Biola's four-game series against Chaminade.

Biola will take Sunday off and then play Hawai'i Pacific on Monday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. PT. at Howard A. Okita Field.
