Eagles Lose Neck-and-Neck Battle

The women’s tennis team lost a neck-and-neck battle to Concordia who won 4-3.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Tennis team played with heart against Concordia, but came up short to the Golden Eagles who won 4-3.

Concordia (2-0 overall) won a hard fought doubles point with wins on courts 3 and 1. Biola (1-2) received the first win on the second court thanks to Gaby Carvajal and Lilly McNeill. Carvajal and McNeill took down CUI's Tiffany Carrillo and Jessica Bear 6-3 to give the Eagles an edge, but back-to-back wins on courts 3 and 1 would secure the doubles point for CUI. Amelia Kitts and Alexandria Mann lost 6-0 on the second court and Colbeyshae Emery and Brooke Fager lost a 7-5 duel to the Golden Eagles.

Biola came back strong with dominant wins on courts 4 and 1. McNeill beat CUI's Alyssa Zayat 6-2, 6-2 and then Emery defeated CUI's Heather Richards 6-4, 6-3 to put BU up 2-1.

Concordia charged back with wins on the second and sixth courts which gave them the 3-2 advantage.

Fager answered back with a key win on the third court over Carrillo (CUI). Fager won the first set 6-2 and then won a close second set 77-63 to tie up the match, 3-3.

All eyes were on the fifth court where Carvajal was battling CUI's Bear. Carvajal worked back from a 7-5 first-set loss to force a third set. Carvajal won the second set 6-4 and lost an intense third set 6-3 to CUI's Bear.

Biola plays next on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Azusa Pacific.
