Eagles Force Split

The softball team split against San Francisco State, taking a 4-1 victory in their second game.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Softball team came back from a 1-0 first-game loss to beat San Francisco State University 4-1 in their second game of the day.

Kaitlyn Hawkins doubled in the bottom of the second to score Bridgette Trujillo, which gave Biola (5-2 overall) the first run of the game (1-0). San Francisco State (5-2 overall) came back in the next inning, tying up the game with two hits, 1-1.

The Eagles wasted no time with their response, answering big in the bottom of the third. Jennifer Morinishi led off with a right-field homer, which gave BU a 2-1 lead. The Eagles then received their first out, which was followed by a Colby McClinton walk. Biola then got their second out, which brought up Roybal. Roybal then found her pitch that she sent long over the center field fence to put the Eagles up, 4-1.

The Eagles shut out the Gators for the remaining four innings which resulted in Biola's 4-1 victory.

Raylene Roybal threw the entire game where she struck out five batters and only allowed four hits. 

Four Eagles hit 500 or above including, McClinton who hit 1-for-2, Roybal 2-for-3, Alexis Lara 1-for-2, and Hawkins 1-for-2.

Biola's first game against San Francisco State was a pitching duel that SFSU broke through in the fifth inning. 

Kayla Bousquette pitched the first four innings for BU where she accumulated three strikeouts and allowed two hits. Morinishi relieved in the fifth inning where the Gators scored their run. SFSU had one hit and executed some situational hitting to cash in, 1-0. 

San Francisco State's Kaitlyn Maddux shut down Biola for the final two innings which finalized SFSU's 1-0 win. 

The Eagles had five hits against SFSU's Maddox. Morinishi had one and McClinton and Lara had two each. McClinton and Lara had successful outings, batting .667 against the right-handed hurler.

Biola plays next tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 11 at 1 and 3 p.m. against CSU Monterey Bay at Freedom Field.
