Eagles Fall in Extra Innings

The softball team put up a hard fight, but ended up losing 3-1 to CSU Monterey Bay in the eighth inning.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Softball team battled against CSU Monterey Bay, but ended up losing 3-1 in the eighth inning.

The Otters (3-3 overall) scored first, making their way onto the board in the second inning (1-0).

Biola (5-3 overall) fought to match CSUMB's run, but came up short for three innings. The Eagles were close in the third and fourth innings where they had runners in scoring position, but the Otters managed to come up with big outs when they needed them to prevent the Eagles from scoring.

BU broke through in the sixth inning. Abie Nowak led off with a walk and then would get out at second off a fielder's choice hit by Raylene Roybal. Brie Nowak came up next and hit a single to right center, giving the Eagles one out with two runners on. Alexis Lara then executed some situational hitting, scoring speedy Roybal from a grounder hit to CSUMB's pitcher (1-1).

A scoreless seventh led to extra innings where the Otters would do some damage. Monterey Bay posted two runs off of three hits in the top of the eighth which would give them a 3-1 lead.

Colby McClinton singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth for the Eagles but the next three batters would get out, concluding part one of the Eagles' doubleheader.

Roybal threw all eight innings where she only allowed seven hits and had five strikeouts against the Otters.

Biola is playing CSU Monterey Bay again, right now, at Freedom Field.
