Thriving in Competition

Biola thrives to be the best on and off the field and your gifts go to help their competitive mission.

February 01, 2023

LA MIRADA --- Competition is vital to Biola Athletics, which is dedicated to the holistic development of its student-athletes. Hard work and sacrifice are strong tenets that help Eagles thrive on the field of play and across campus. Your gifts during Athletics Week of Giving will go to enhance the goal of competition for each and every program at Biola.

"At Biola, we believe that competition is really important to the thriving student-athletes as they are spiritually formed in Christ," said Dr. Bethany Miller. "Thriving looks like learning what it means to put in hard work and sacrifice to become resilient."

A desire to be the best in all that we do permeates through Biola Athletics. BU looks to rise to new heights as recent members of the NCAA Division II and the PacWest conference.

The Eagles made a big splash earlier this year, earning three conference championships in one day. The feat brought historic accomplishments for the school and for the conference, as Biola thrived in competition.

BU men's cross country opened the incredible day with a nail-biter finish. The team inched out a victory by one point to take home the PacWest crown up in the bay area. The women's cross country squad followed with an impressive showing of their own to grab its first PacWest championship in program history.

All the while, the BU men's soccer team prepared for a chance to earn a share of their title. The Eagles took advantage of their opportunity less than 10 miles away from the two championships for cross country. A 1-0 win for BU earned the team a regular season PacWest Co-Championship.

"That day was like none I have ever had in my career. An amazing day but it was much more important to see the end goal that athletics was used for something bigger and that was to live lives that are glorifying to God," commented Dr. Miller.

Beyond athletic achievement, the mission of Biola Athletics goes far beyond winning games. "To thrive in competition, it means so much more than competitive success," added Dr. Miller.

Biola Athletics thriving in competition means student-athletes developing in every aspect of themselves. It will manifest in their athletics, academics, and relationships, as they grow for the glory of God.

As the Eagles compete to their fullest, please consider supporting the amazing work of the dedicated student-athletes during our Athletics Week of Giving.
