Biola Welcomes Westmont to PacWest

The Eagles saw their first PacWest confrontation with Westmont and claimed the win on the road.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Biola grabbed its first conference win of the 2023-24 campaign on Saturday, defeating Westmont (4-5, 1-3 PacWest) in the evening bout. Halftime provided a useful break, as the Eagles (5-4, 1-1 PacWest) dominated the second half in a 84-70 victory.

The offense was highlighted by a shining effort from Nathan Medina. The sophomore delivered with 25 points on 62.5 percent shooting from the field and 60.0 percent shooting from downtown. He played all but two minutes of the contest and increased his season average to 18.4 points per game.

The matchup began quite evenly with strong back-and-forth between the two teams. Only three points separated Westmont and Biola through 13 minutes of action. The Warriors held a mere three-point lead but jumped ahead as the game progressed.

Over the next three and a half minutes, WC made its move. A 13-3 run put the host squad ahead but the Eagles were not done. Biola ended the half strong though, as Myja White tallied five points on back-to-back possessions, helping the team to a 9-2 run before intermission.

Medina thrived in the BU offense at the start, posting 15 points in the first 20 minutes of the contest.

The charge continued after the halftime break. BU broke through for its biggest lead so far in the game with a 14-3 run to kick off the second half. The Eagles opened a five-point lead with six points from Casey Cappo and four points from Maximo Milovich and Daniel Esparza in the stretch.

The Eagles continued to push their advantage, reaching an 11-point lead with a Medina trey. In the waning minutes, BU gathered a game-high lead of 17 points and finished out the 84-70 triumph.

Biola took care of business on the boards with Milovich leading the charge. BU outrebounded the Warriors 39-31 on the night, while adding nine second-chance points. Milovich was the only player in double figures, grabbing 15 rebounds on Saturday.

20 free throws from the Eagles doubled Westmont's total, as the team went 20-for-30 from the line.

Biola will be back in action after finals week, hosting Academy of Art next Saturday at 7:30 pm.
