December 02, 2023

ORANGE, Calif. --- The Chapman Invite saw Biola highlights throughout the event, as the Eagles shined on Saturday. The team pulled in top finishes in nearly every event, taking 10 event crowns and 24 top-three showings.

The shining moment for BU came in one of the first events of the day. The 200 medley relay featured a group of Allison Yancey, Meghan Tolman, Morgan Kampfer, and Katie Ottman, who stole the show for first place. The group posted a time of 1:46.41, setting the new pool record.

The team's success continued with a sweep of the 400 IM. Andrew Hanson delivered with a time of 4:20.02, taking the win by mere milliseconds over teammate Donatus Onu in second place.

On the women's side, the Eagles claimed all three podium spots with Rachel Munch at the top. Munch clocked in a time of 4:35.74, defeating all other foes by nearly four seconds. Kampfer came through next at 4:40.00 and Sofia Chavez-Varela took third at 4:44.20.

The sweeps continued with the 100 backstroke, as Nathan Griffin and Yancey were victorious. Griffin claimed the win on the men's side at 51.24 and was closely followed by Alejandro Marchesini in second at 51.57. Yancey touched at 57.23, beating her opponents by over 1.5 seconds.

The lengthier 200 backstroke saw Marchesini take the lead. Marchesini and Ryan Monrean finished back-to-back, as the duo took first and second at 1:54.30 and 1:55.62, respectively.

Next up in the 200 freestyle, Chloe Colvard was the dominant swimmer. The freshman posted a time of 1:55.25 and was in the lead over second place by nearly four seconds.

Tolman added an event win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.06. Later in the 200 breaststroke, Tolman took second behind teammate Munch in a 1-2 BU punch.

Another relay success came through on the women's side in the 400 free relay. Munch, Chavez-Varela, Phoebe Munholland, and Yancey claimed the win with a time of 3:33.37.

On Friday, BU diving set stellar marks, including Eliana Cote earning her 11 dive 1M NCAA qualification. More school records were set, as Caleb Pook and Lorelai Carney grabbed program records in the 1M and 3M 11 dive events.

Biola will head to Florida for its next competition, swimming in the CSCAA Open Water Nationals in Biscayne Bay on December 17.
