EXCELLENT ACADEMICS

The women's soccer team had six athletes selected to the Academic All-District Team.

GREENWOOD, Ind.---The Biola women's soccer team had six athletes selected to the Academic All-District Team, announced Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators.

To be eligible student-athletes must have been a starter or key reserve who played in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of their team's games with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. The athlete must also be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. 

Sarah Melvin, Chloe Laurin, Peyton Nelson, Abby Chavez, Jordyn Provience and Autum Monty represented Biola as Academic All-District selections. Four of the Eagles' six selections are nursing majors.

Melvin has a 3.93 cumulative GPA in business administration. The redshirt Junior played in a career-high of 17 games this season and added up three starts, totaling 399 minutes. She also scored the first goal of her collegiate career against CSULA.

Laurin is majoring in nursing and has a 3.89 cumulative GPA. Laurin was a key piece of the Eagles' defensive line who recorded the first assists of her collegiate career this season. The Junior posted an assist against CSULA and ART U. She also played in 16 matches, recording 15 starts and 1,310 minutes. In over half of the matches she played in, she played the full 90 minutes.

Nelson, a nursing student, has a 3.87 cumulative GPA. Nelson not only thrived in the classroom but also on the field this year where she was a conference statistical leader collecting the third-most goals (8), sixth-most shots (42), 10th-most points (16), and 10th-most shots on-goal (16) in the PacWest. Additionally, she was a Second Team All-PacWest selection and was named PacWest Player of the Week this season.

Chavez is a redshirt junior forward with a 3.69 cumulative GPA in nursing. Chavez played in 16 games, received eight starts and totaled 811 minutes. She scored two goals and had an assist this season.

Provience, a junior, has a 3.58 cumulative GPA in liberal studies elementary education. The Midfielder posted a career-high of 1,229 minutes this season, playing in 16 games with 15 starts. She also scored the first goal of her collegiate career against ART U.

Monty was Biola's last selection who has a 3.5 cumulative GPA in nursing. Monty played and started in every game in the goal, recording a team-high of 1,530 minutes. She racked up 73 saves which was the sixth-most in the conference and her saves per game percentage of 4.29 was fourth-best in the PacWest. She ended the year with a 1.29 goals against average and three shutouts.

WHAT'S NEXT?
All-District selections will be move on and be voted on for Academic All-America. The Academic All-American team will be released on Wednesday, December 20.
