LA MIRADA---The Biola women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a 73-58 win over Alaska Fairbanks.

Four Eagles scored in the double digits tonight. Jaycee Goldsmith had a night to remember, leading Biola with 20 points in her college debut. Goldsmith knocked down six three's in an exciting showing at Chase Gymnasium.

Also scoring in the double digits was Laila Walker (13), Jordan Rabe (12) and Natasa Radovic (10).

The Eagles and Nanooks were neck-and-neck throughout the first quarter. The biggest lead was a five point advantage by Alaska Fairbanks that was quickly cut down to two when Goldsmith sunk in her first three of the night (10-8). Biola and Alaska Fairbanks would continue to go back and forth until the end of the quarter where UAF led by one point (18-17).

Biola broke away with a big second-quarter showing where they outscored Alaska Fairbanks 24-7. Goldsmith helped swing the momentum Biola's way, scoring 15 points from five three-point baskets. Radovic was BU's next highest scorer with five points and she was followed by Walker (4) and Rabe (3).

The Eagles built upon their second-quarter success in the third and would achieve their biggest lead of the game which was a 24-point advantage (60-36) thanks to a good free throw by Radovic.

Biola entered the fourth quarter with a healthy 20-point lead, but Alaska Fairbanks would give it their all in the last 10 minutes where they outscored BU 14-9. The Eagles would rely on their defense to close out the game and eventually would take home the 73-58 win.

Taking Advantage of Turnovers…Biola only allowed 14 turnovers compared to Alaska Fairbanks' 27. The Eagles took advantage of the Nanooks' mistakes, cashing in on 26 points off of their turnovers.
