The comeback effort was electric but the Eagles were unable to complete it, falling in five sets.

Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- The first PacWest matchup between the Biola Eagles and Westmont Warriors was a doozy on Saturday night. The match featured huge swings with the hosting Warriors taking the first two sets and the Eagles winning the next two. The race to 15 points was won by Westmont in a 17-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-13, 11-15 loss for BU.

Saturday's match marked Biola's fifth five-set contest of the season, as the team moved to 3-2 in such matches.

Meredith Fisher paced the Biola offense with 12 kills but Dominique Kirton and Abby Brewster were not far behind. Brewster tallied 11 kills on the way to a triple-double. The BU setter dished out 22 assists, as well as 12 digs to complete a well-rounded night. Kirton nabbed a double-double, adding 11 digs to her 10 kills.

At the net, Abigail Copeland led the defense with two solo blocks and four block assists. The BU squad totaled 11 blocks on the night.

Set One: Westmont scored on seven-of-eight rallies after an 11-11 tie to gain separation. Five service errors plagued the Eagles, while the Warriors picked up six more kills than Biola.

Set Two: Both offenses stepped up but the Warriors still held the advantage. Biola nabbed 13 kills with a .257 hitting percentage but WC tallied 16 kills with a .310 hitting percentage. The key run for Westmont came at 21-21 with three-straight points and two set-points later the host squad took a 2-0 lead.

Set Three: Biola returned to form with a strong showing. The team picked up three more kills than Westmont with a .250 hitting percentage. Ashlyn Beebe put the exclamation point on the set with four-consecutive service aces for the final four points.

Set Four: The first nine points went the way of the Eagles. Nothing could slow down Biola in a dominant 25-13 set. The largest lead of the set for Biola was an astounding 15 points.

Set Five: Westmont jumped out quickly and held off the Eagles. A 15-11 set staved off a feverish Biola comeback effort.

Biola will travel to Hawai'i for its next contest, facing Chaminade on October 18 at 10:00 pm PST.
