One Step at a Time

The Eagles saw their winning streak come to an end but the team fought closely with No. 16 Santa Clara.

LA MIRADA --- Day two of the CBU Lancer Joust brought tough competition, as the Eagles opened the day against 16th-ranked Santa Clara (8-7). Biola (14-10) stayed within reach throughout the matchup but could not overcome the Broncos in the 11-6 final.

The fourth quarter saw the intensity with the game hanging in balance. Biola entered the period down by three but Roman Saroyan cut that down quickly. The big righty put a well-paced shot past the goalie from long range on the team's first possession of the fourth. A BU powerplay aided the next score, as John Grasso brought the BU squad within one at 7-6. With only five minutes remaining, the game was up for grabs.

The Broncos responded and capitalized in the waning minutes. Santa Clara scored the final four goals of the game, holding off the Eagles' late push.

The first half was low scoring with six combined goals between the two teams. Caleb Hernandez and Nolan Rapp each dented the twine, as the Eagles trailed 4-2 at the half.

Hernandez continued his pace of strong play, notching three points on Saturday morning. The sophomore logged two goals with one assist, while adding a steal and two field blocks. Grasso matched Hernandez for the team-high of two goals.

Mitchell Carpenter tallied nine saves in the cage, logging all 32 minutes of action for BU.

Biola is back in action in the afternoon at Splash! taking on No. 10 Loyola Marymount at 4:00 pm.
