October 29, 2023

PASADENA, Calif. --- The Eagles battled under the lights on Saturday in a tri-meet between Biola, Caltech, and Occidental.

The Biola women logged a sweep on the night, defeating Occidental, 212-79, while also taking down Caltech, 209.5-80.5. On the men's side, BU was victorious over Occidental, 211-85 but fell narrowly to Caltech, 152-142.

"Our women's team has been working so hard in training and it's always nice to see them put it all together on Saturdays for our dual meets!" said head coach Nathan Harding. "This team is starting to realize they can swim with anyone in our conference! I couldn't be more proud of our ladies!"

Lorelai Carney stood out for Biola on the diving boards. The junior took advantage of her opportunity and earned a 6 dive NCAA qualification score in the 1M dive. Carney took first and posted a score of 263.50 in the 1M dive and also grabbed gold in the 3M with a dive of 249.00.

Caleb Pook dominated the dive competition on the men's side, grabbing first place in both the 1M and 3M dives. Pook was over 60 points ahead of his competition on the 1M, finishing at 273.55, while logging a score of 224.50 for first in the 3M.

"It was exciting to have most of our men racing together this weekend," commented Harding. "I thought our men fought hard against a quality DIII opponent in Caltech. It's always fun to swim against talented local programs like Caltech and Oxy!"

The Biola women picked up 12 swim event crowns to go along with a pair of dive wins. In addition the squad managed to sweep the podium in four different events.

The BU men's team grabbed the individual title in six different swim events, while nabbing both dive wins. In the 1000 freestyle race, BU placed the top three finishers with Noah Hall, Michael Maurer and Gavin Souttere.

"Our men look solid headed into our Mid-season Meet!" added Harding. "After today's meet, our women are definitely going into Saturday's meet with the confidence to compete with a top-25 team in APU! I'm excited to see our ladies set a new standard of excellence next weekend."

The Biola women will compete next week on Saturday at Azusa Pacific, while BU diving for the men and women will be back on Saturday, November 11 at the Soka Invite.
