LA MIRADA, Calif. --- On Monday afternoon the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) announced that Biola University and SPLASH! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center will host the 2024 spring women's conference championship tournament.

Head Coach Sarah Orozco's team won the 2023 WWPA Championship hosted at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois. The Eagles will have the opportunity to repeat as champions in the comfort of their home pool. This is the first time Biola will host the WWPA Championships.

"Biola Women's Water Polo team is deeply honored, grateful, and truly blessed to be chosen as the host for the 2024 WWPA Championship," said Orozco. "We are incredibly excited to host and look forward to beginning preparations for preseason."

The tournament has not been held in Southern California since 2018, when it was played at the Canyonview Aquatic Center at UC San Diego.


The three-day, single-elimination tournament to earn the WWPA's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo National Championship will be held April 26-28, 2024. SPLASH! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center is Biola's home pool and operated by the City of La Mirada. The pool is located immediately across the street from Biola at 13806 La Mirada Blvd. 

The 2024 edition will feature eight WWPA teams - four from the east regions  and four from the west region. Seeds, game times, ticket availability, and more information will be made available during the 2024 women's regular season.

"This tournament will be a fantastic showcase of talent & determination from all east and west teams," said Orozco. "We are looking forward to welcoming teams from across the conference to our home pool, creating an environment that fosters competitive excellence and sportsmanship."

While the women's tournament will not take place for another 207 days, water polo fans can get their fix at SPLASH! later this week as Biola's Men's Water Polo team hosts single matches on Wednesday and Thursday and eight total tournament matches on Friday and Saturday.

Women's season begins January 20, 2024 as the Eagles play at Long Beach State in the Beach Invite.
