Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

Osborn Clinches it for BU

The Eagles battled back against FPU on Friday and it was Maxwell Osborn to give Biola the edge in the waning seconds.

FRESNO, Calif. --- Biola (15-11, 3-0 WWPA) secured a share of the top of the west region of the Western Water Polo Association with a win over Fresno Pacific (3-15, 0-2 WWPA). The victory came under the lights on Friday, as the Eagles overcame a deficit to sneak away with a 15-14 win.

Maxwell Osborn brought the clutch play in the final minutes of the contest. BU entered the fourth trailing by one and was still behind with two minutes to play in the game. Osborn knotted the game at 14 in the final minutes on an Eagles power play.

The game hung in balance until the clock ticked to under 30 seconds remaining. A BU timeout set up the play, before Osborn struck again. The senior received the pass and quickly turned and fired a shot into the upper right of the cage for a perfect score. The goal moved the Eagles ahead, 15-14, with 20 seconds left. The Eagles defense stood tall on the final possession to score the win.

The margins for Friday's contest were razor thin with neither team gaining a lead of more than two goals. Each team picked up multiple two-goal leads but a response would always follow.

Heading into the second half, the Sunbirds were the team to hold the slight edge. The hosting Sunbirds put together a 5-1 run to take the lead and FPU held an advantage for over half of the second half.

The bulk of the BU offense came from freshman Roman Saroyan. The lengthy sprinter put up five goals on seven shots to lead all scorers on Friday. He ended the night with six points, adding an assist.

The rest of the attack came from the center with Joshua Halopoff, Nick Murray and Osborn combining for eight goals.

Mitchell Carpenter nabbed 15 stops in the cage and picked up the win with 32 minutes played.

Biola will return home for its next contest, hosting Sierra College on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
