Winning with Wright

Alex Wright provided the spark on Saturday in an Eagles 86-77 victory over Fresno Pacific.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (10-5, 5-3 PacWest) maintained its winning ways on Saturday, taking down PacWest foe Fresno Pacific (4-11, 2-7 PacWest) inside Chase Gymnasium. The 10th win of the season came via a 86-77 final score with the help of 26 points from BU's leader Alex Wright.

The weekend win marked the third-straight win for the BU men's basketball squad that is in the heart of its conference schedule. Despite it being a tight matchup, the Eagles never trailed on Saturday and gathered their largest lead at 16 points in the first half.

Wright caught fire early, taking over the game after the 13-minute mark. Through six minutes of action, Wright went a perfect five-for-five from the field and two-of-two from the charity stripe for 11 points. The only other Eagle to score in the stretch was Daniel Esparza as Biola boosted forward to a 27-17 lead.

Fresno Pacific had a clear mindset on offense in the opening half; attack the inside. Tyus Parrish-Tillman denied their opportunities, posting two blocks and six rebounds to hold the visitors quiet in the paint.

Esparza kept up the pressure on offense, helping the Eagles to a 41-25 halftime lead. The guard posted 10 points in the first half, following Wright who led all players with 13.

As expected, the Sunbirds picked up the pace after the halftime break. The visitors made their move and came within one point of the Eagles with a 19-4 run to open the second half.

Wright broke the streak, connecting on a three-pointer to create breathing room once again at 48-44. The next 11 minutes went by with the two teams trading blows to keep the status quo. BU maintained its advantage and still led by six heading into the final three minutes of play.

The dagger buckets came from Maximo Milovich. The big man absorbed contact inside and completed back-to-back three-point plays to extend BU's lead to double-digits. Each and-one was followed by ecstatic emotions from Milovich and the fans.

The Biola squad finished out the 86-77 win with seven free throws to hold FPU at bay.

Wright never came off the floor, logging 40 minutes of action with his 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The senior added efficiency to his game's resume, shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc.

Esparza and Milovich also shined in the scoring column with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Erik Howlin was the fourth BU scorer in double figures with 11 points of his own.

Parrish-Tillman dominated inside the paint all night. The freshman tallied five blocks, 10 rebounds and nine points in his strong performance.

Biola will head to Hawaii for its next three contests, starting with Hawaii Pacific next Saturday at 6:00 pm PST.
