Eagles Show Out

The women’s basketball team showed out against Holy Names, racking up 94 points in their 94-59 win against the Hawks.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Basketball team showed out with a strong 94-59 win against Holy Names Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium. 

The Eagles came locked and loaded, executing their highest scoring game in the past six seasons. The last time Biola scored 94 points was in 2017 in a 94-87 win against Bethesda University. 

Five Eagles shot in the double digits tonight including leader Laila Walker (22 points), Jessa Thurman (11 points), Jordan Rabe (11 points), Aysia Johnson (10 points) and Maya Whiteside (10 points). 

"We had a great team win tonight," stated Whiteside. "We really enjoyed implementing our adjustments from practice and are excited about another great win in conference. 

Biola put up some exciting numbers tonight, recording averages from the field and three-point line that were above their 2022-23 season game averages. BU successfully shot 49 percent in the field and 43 percent beyond the arc against HNU which was above their respective game averages of 41 percent in the field and 35 percent beyond the arc.

Nine Eagles shot 50 percent or better in the field including: Walker (8-10), Rabe (5-10), Johnson (4-8), Sydney Moran (3-6), Natasa Radovic (3-5), Thurman (4-8), Whiteside (2-4), Madi Chang (1-1) and Hope Weber (1-1). 

Walker also led her team in downtown baskets, hitting five of seven attempts. Moran had the second-most three pointers, going 3-for-6 and Johnson followed her with two successful three's. Also notable mentions, Whiteside and Chang were a perfect 1-for-1 in three-pointers.

Biola owned the boards tonight where they outscored Holy Names 44-23. Sixteen of which were offensive and led to BU scoring 12 second chance points to HNU's two. Biola also capitalized on their opponents mistakes where they scored a whopping 38 points off turnovers. BU's bench also packed a punch, stepping up to contribute 35 points.

Biola improves 5-8 and 5-2 in the PacWest, while Holy Names slips 1-15 and 0-8 in the conference. The Eagles currently sit in fifth place in the league standings and play their next conference matchup on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2:30 p.m. against Fresno Pacific.
