Eagles Defeat Warriors

The women’s tennis team defeated Westcliff 4-3 in the exhibition match at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Tennis team began the 2023 season with a 4-3 win over Westcliff. Although the match was an exhibition and didn't count for their overall record and statistics it was a great learning opportunity for the Eagles who will begin their regular season on Monday, Feb. 6 against CSU Los Angeles.

Biola dominated Westcliff in doubles, taking wins on all three courts to earn the doubles point. Gaby Carvajal and Lilly McNeill won first followed by Colbeyshae Emery and Charlie Croteau and Brooke Fager and Alexandria Mann.

The Eagles quickly jumped to 2-0 when Carajal's opponent retired on court 5 and then increased their lead to 3-0 with a win on the fourth court by McNeill (6-0, 6-4). With the momentum flowing Biola's way, the women quickly sealed the deal on the first court when Emery beat her opponent 6-2, 7-5.

Although Westcliff had already lost they made the best of the position they were in, taking the final two wins on courts 3 and 2. With the final two matches recorded, the final score ended up 4-3 in Biola's favor.

The Eagles play next on Monday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. against CSU Los Angeles.
