Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Billi Derleth, Assistant Sports Information Director

Eagles Execute

The men's tennis team executed a 4-3 win over Westcliff in their exhibition match at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Men's Tennis team opened up the 2023 season with an exhibition match against the Westcliff Warriors. Although the match didn't count for their overall record and statistics it was a great learning opportunity for the Eagles who will begin their regular season on Thursday, Feb. 2 against Hope International.

The Eagles got off to a strong start, winning the doubles point. Biola received their first win on the first court from Antonio Rosales Varona and Alexei Prokopchuk. The Eagles lost momentum with a 7-5 loss on court 2, but won on the third court due to a Westcliff injury. 

Westcliff fought back, receiving the first singles win on court 6. Biola answered back with a 77-33, 6-2 win by Prokopchuk on the first court. The next two matches completed in a similar fashion with Westcliff taking a win on court 3 and then Biola coming back with a win on two, this time by Antonio Varona.

The Eagles were up 3-2, but the Warriors still had the opportunity to come back from behind with ongoing matches on courts 4 and 5. The fourth court ended up being the deciding factor with Isaac Cordova clinching the win with a final score of 7-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Even though Biola won the match, they played out the fourth court which ended up being a win for Westcliff resulting in Biola's 4-3 victory.

The Eagles play next on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. against Hope International.
