Year Two Underway

The Biola men’s water polo squad returned to the pool for the program’s second season, opening up at the Navy Open.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- Biola headed to the east coast for its 2022 season opener. The Navy open played host to a stacked crew of water polo teams, beginning on Saturday. BU battled Navy and George Washington on the first day of action.

The Eagles put up a fight in both competitions but came up short against the two NCAA DI schools. 

In the opening match of the day, BU fell behind quickly against the hosting Navy Midshipmen. The home team tallied four unanswered goals to start the contest to put the Eagles behind. 

Biola made their stand in the second half, outscoring Navy, 4-3. The fourth period belonged to BU, as the visitors held the Midshipmen scoreless through the eight minutes of action. Mitchell Carpenter did his part with four blocks in the span and nine total in the contest.

Kenny Wulf carried the attack in the 12-7 loss for BU. No. 13 for the Eagles tacked on four goals and drew a pair of exclusions, as he propelled the offense. Joshua Halopoff also posted a goal in his Eagles debut. 

In their second game of the day, Biola found itself in an early deficit once again. George Washington found success in the first period, building a 6-2 lead.

Biola responded in the second, going 3-2 in the stanza and staying within striking distance at 8-5 at the half. The Colonials regained their footing in the second half to complete a 15-9 final over the Eagles.

Maxwell Osborn stepped up for BU in game two. The junior landed a trio of goals to match his career-best in a single game. Wulf was the main setup man against GW, dishing out two assists.

BU freshman Adam Lavoy saw his first collegiate goal, nabbing two total in the bout. The young talent also collected two steals and one drawn exclusion to offer a complete performance.

The Navy Open will continue on Sunday when the Eagles take on Mount St. Mary's at 6:15 am (PST) and Bucknell at 9:15 am (PST).
