Gunn Makes Program History

Senior JD Gunn made a record breaking 13 saves against Concordia University Irvine Saturday night in the 2-2 tie at Eagles Field.

IRVINE, Calif.--- JD Gunn had a night to remember in the Biola University men's soccer team's 2-2 tie against Concordia University Irvine Saturday night.

Gunn defended Biola's goal against CUI's 26 shots where he made 13 saves.

Thirteen was a milestone mark for Gunn - and the Biola men's soccer program. For Gunn, it was a single match career high and for the men's soccer squad it was a record breaker for the most saves made in a single game by a Biola goalie in the Division II ERA. Igor Puglia was the last record holder who had 12 saves against UC San Diego in 2017.

Biola began the match down by a goal, but an exciting second half got the Eagles back in the game.

The Golden Eagles made the first mark on the scoreboard, but the Eagles made the last in the 2-2 tie. CUI scored their first goal in the first half and led until the 51st minute of the final frame when Kristian Colaci scored his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Samuel Skartnes who earned his second assist of the season. Colaci is now tied for the seventh-most goals in NCAA Division II.

CUI responded two minutes later with the leading goal (2-1). Concordia's Tyler Oakson nabbed his second goal of the game and the Eagles continued to work against the Golden Eagles' defense.

Biola found success in the 69th minute, tying up the match once again (2-2). Freshman Ethan Hardin also scored a career mark, making the first goal of his career. Hardin was assisted by Aidan Hill.

Twenty minutes of action remained where each goalkeeper made a crucial save to keep the game locked, 2-2.

The men's soccer team begins conference play on Thursday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. against Fresno Pacific at Al Barbour Field.
