CUI Pulls Ahead in Triple Overtime

The men’s water polo team fought hard against Concordia University, but it was the Golden Eagles who eventually came up on top in the 7th period.

RIVERSIDE, Calif.--- The Biola University men's water polo team went into triple overtime with Concordia University in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles put up a great fight, but it was the Golden Eagles who ended up coming out on top with the 10-9 win at the Lancer Aquatics Center.

Biola and Concordia went goal-for-goal throughout the first four quarters. Biola held the lead on five occasions while Concordia got the upper hand four times. Neither team was ahead by more than three goals at any point in the contest.

BU's Adam LaVoy scored the first goal in overtime (8-7), but was met by two-consecutive goals by CUI's Jeff Runyan (8-8) and Harry Bentham (9-8). Concordia held the edge going into the second overtime

Biola quickly regrouped and was ready to capitalize on the Golden Eagles' exclusion and tie up the game (9-9).

With the game tied, BU and CUI entered a sudden-death seventh period that resulted in the Green and Gold's 10-9 victory.

Seven Eagles scored in the second contest of the day. Biola had two goalies split time in the goal, making seven saves a piece in the duel.
