July 19, 2022

LA MIRADA --- In 2022, the inaugural season of Biola's women's water polo team went swimmingly in the pool and in the classroom. The squad was recognized for its academic excellence on Tuesday with 14 total all-academic awards from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.

The ACWPC divided its academic honors between three tiers, including Outstanding, Superior and Excellent. A minimum grade-point average of 3.20 was needed for Excellent, 3.41 was needed for Superior and 3.71 was good enough to reach the top at Outstanding.

Two Eagles notched the prestigious Outstanding status, including Lizzy Birch and Hanna Jordan. The duo boasted some of the best academic accomplishments in the nation to land in the prestigious category.

With GPAs of 3.41-3.70, Karlie Wanmer, Makayla Lankford, Ava LoBue, Samantha Rainey, Maria Roldan Gonzalez and Alicia Fregoso earned the Superior standard. Rounding out the list, Lily Wolfe, Damaris Kientz, Allison Crawford, Rachel Spadt, Christina Cervantes and Kourtney Pyle each were recognized as Excellent for GPAs of 3.20-3.40.

In total, 14-of-19 Biola women's water polo players made the all-academic list, making up 74 percent of the team.
