Late Push Propels Eagles to Win

In their season finale, the Eagles piled on seven runs in the last two innings to pull off the Wednesday sweep at Azusa Pacific.

AZUSA, Calif. --- The Biola Boys put together a strong finish to the 2022 season, completing a Wednesday sweep over the 23rd-ranked Azusa Pacific Cougars. APU played host, as the Eagles corralled a game two win with the help of seven runs in the final two innings.

The back half of the midweek doubleheader featured a seven inning battle between the two rivals.

Rylan Greenlee got the offense jump started with the round tripper in the fourth inning. For the third-straight game, Greenlee left the park to record his 12th homer of the 2022 season. The homer also brought home Oscar Serratos for two scores. Wyatt Duncan followed with a single and made it around the bases to tie the game at three.

The game transitioned to the sixth inning with the status up in the air at 3-3. Andrew Lujan stayed hot with a single on a 1-2 count to get a runner on base. Rhett Stein nabbed his own single and Tyler Baca reached by an error to load the bases with two outs. A big opportunity was not wasted, as Tyler White logged the go-ahead base hit, scoring Lujan and Stein to give Biola the 5-3 lead.

Bobby Brown delivered a scoreless bottom of the sixth on the mound to maintain the Biola lead. BU did not sit still though, adding more runs with another two-out rally. The Eagles created the scoring opportunity in the seventh by loading the bases with two outs, once again.

Stein picked up the bat and connected on a double to right field, bringing home all three runners. The BU offense continued to fire with more RBI hits from Baca and White, ultimately tallying five runs in the frame for Biola. Those five runs built a 10-3 advantage for the visitors with just three outs remaining for APU.

With plenty of room to work with, Brown toed the rubber again. The final three outs came through with action on the base paths but Brown completed the save for Biola with a 10-4 final scoreline.

Connor Butler earned the win on the mound, tossing a hitless inning. Butler went three-up three-down in the fifth and was the pitcher on record when Biola took the lead for his first win of the season.

Six Eagles logged multiple hits in the win, including Stein, Lujan, Duncan, Greenlee, Serratos and White.

With the win, Biola capped off its 2022 campaign at 22-27 overall and 18-14 in the PacWest.
