The Eagles returned to the winning column on Friday thanks to a clutch performance from Lilly McNeill.

SURPRISE, Ariz. --- The PacWest Tennis Championships continued at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex on Friday, as Biola moved into the consolation bracket. The third-seeded Eagles took on a talented Cal State LA squad for the right to play in the fifth place match set for Saturday.

Biola returned to form after a disappointing day one, surging ahead with two strong doubles wins. The first match to fall came on court No. 2, as Brooke Fager and Alexandria Mann pulled off a 6-2 set to get things moving in a positive way.

The 1-0 lead belonged to BU after another 6-2 set in No. 3 doubles. Ines Diaz and Gaby Carvajal joined forces to take down Mayo and Ruiz from seventh-seeded CSULA.

The match remained firmly in favor of the Eagles with wins from the top two singles. Colbeyshae Emery picked up her seventh-consecutive win with a 6-1, 6-3 showing.

Not long after, Mary Brascia showed off her stuff with a second straight-sets win for Biola. The victory from the No. 2 spot was the 15th singles win for the senior in her 2022 campaign.

A 3-0 lead seemed to mean an easy finish for Biola but the Golden Eagles created drama late in the contest. CSULA needed to win all four remaining singles matches to take the win and ultimately held the lead in all four at one point in the afternoon.

The first point went over to the seventh-seed from the No. 6 spot, after a big comeback in the final set. A drawn out straight-sets contest finished next on court No. 3, as CSULA picked up a second point for a 3-2 scoreline.

With the attention shifted to the No. 4 singles, Lilly McNeill and Sakura Kurokawa went toe-to-toe with the match on the line. The two competitors traded the first two sets, leaving the third and final set to decide the contest.

McNeill grabbed the early lead, going up 3-1 in the third set. Kurokawa would not be relinquished that easily though, battling back for her own advantage at 5-4. The Golden Eagle needed one more game for the win but never found a match-point opportunity. McNeill stormed back and won three-straight games to clinch the victory for Biola. The sophomore from Biola served in the final game and gave up just one point on the way to crucial triumph.

The fifth place match is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday between Biola and the fourth-seeded Point Loma Sea Lions.
