Doubles Win, Day Lost

BU and PLNU battled it out on Saturday for the final matchup of the PacWest tournament.

SURPRISE, Ariz. --- The fifth place match concluded the PacWest Tournament for the Biola Eagles and Point Loma Sea Lions on Saturday. Fifth-seeded PLNU won the first four singles matches on the way to a 4-1 finish in block IV.

Everything looked dandy at the start of the match for the Eagles. BU found big advantages in doubles play to notch the first point of the afternoon.

Brooke Fager and Alexandria Mann left little doubt in their matchup on court No. 2. The duo came through with a 6-2 set win to even the doubles portion at 1-1.

Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia capitalized on their "lob city" tactics to move ahead in No. 1 doubles. The set finished at 6-3, giving BU a 1-0 lead to open up the competition.

Singles play flipped the day on its head, as Point Loma took control. All six singles matches went the way of the Sea Lions in the opening set, leading to four straight-sets triumphs.

Prior to the fourth point coming in for PLNU, Mann picked up a 6-3 set win on court No. 3. The win forced a set three that would ultimately not be played because the match was already clinched in PLNU's favor at 4-1.

The result moved BU's overall record to 21-6 on the season and the team will now await the NCAA DII West Regional Selection Show to see if they will move on to the next round in postseason play.
