Box Score
FRESNO, Calif. — Biola Women's Water Polo will finish its first-ever Western Water Polo Association regular season with a winning record!

Head Coach Sarah Orozco's team closed out its countable conference competitions on Saturday with a 14-8 victory over Fresno Pacific in a road match that locked up a 2-1 WWPA record for Biola in 2022.

The Eagles scored 14 goals last game, 14 goals this game and have had double-digit tallies in seven of their last eight matches as the offense has turned on the jets in the home stretch of this regular season.

Today's 14-goal performance was powered by a nine-goal second half where Biola dominated the hosting Sunbirds with a 9-4 second-half advantage. The Eagles held FPU without a single goal in the final period of play to turn an 11-8 match into the 14-8 final.

Three different Eagles accounted for those final three goals as Kourtney Pyle, Maria Roldan Gonzalez and Ava LoBue all scored in the last frame.

Biola scored first in this one, but Fresno Pacific did manage a lead a 2-1 and 3-2 before Biola surged ahead with back-to-back goals to make it 4-3 and then never trailed or saw the game tied again.

Pyle and Hanna Jordan scored back-to-back to begin the second period of play and open up that 4-3 lead for Biola. Jordan scored again to make it 5-3 and the Eagles would eventually open up to as wide of a lead as 9-5 until FPU found new life and fought back in to it.

The Sunbirds' Amy Zaninovich would score late in the third quarter to get FPU as close as 9-8, but Pyle and Rachel Spadt scored back-to-back to make it 11-8 heading into that last period. The Zaninovich goal was the last bit of fight from FPU.

Pyle scored five times in this game to lead Biola with six total points. She is up over 50 goals this season now.

Maria Roldan Gonzalez (4G, 1A) and Spadt (1G, 4A) were the next most productive for BU with five points a piece.

The win is the 10th of the year for Biola. They improve to 10-15 overall and have just one regular season match left. That match will be Hanna Jordan's senior day at SPLASH! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center and will also be against this Sunbirds team.

We hope you'll make plans to join us across the street at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 14.
