Two Days Two Wins

The Eagles went back-to-back on Tuesday and Wednesday, taking down Holy Names in a midweek contest.

LA MIRADA --- Biola saw its second-consecutive day of competition on Wednesday and accomplished the same result as the day before. BU (10-2) improved its winning streak to seven matches with a 7-0 showing against Holy Names (1-2). Win number 10 for BU in 2022 matched the best overall win total for an entire season since 2016 for the Eagles.

Heading into Wednesday, the BU men's tennis squad had not given up a point through its previous three matches. The team maintained its streak with all seven points of the afternoon en-route to the team's fourth-straight shutout.

Alexei Prokopchuk and Antonio Rosales Varona sprinted to the finish on court No. 1, starting off the midweek contest with a 6-0 set. Doubles play continued and concluded with Sebastian Herrera and Carlos Solorzano, who tallied a 6-1 set to move to 8-2 as a duo in 2022.

One by one the points continued to trickle one, as play transitioned to singles matches. Prokopchuk picked up where he left off in doubles, crushing it from the No. 2 spot. The redshirt junior recorded his fifth-consecutive straight-sets win with a 6-1, 6-0 rout.

The next three all came in with dominant results, as the Eagles did not give up more than three games in any set. Alex Sedeno, Isaac Cordova and Callen Hein took care of business on their respective courts, moving the overall score of the match to 5-0.

Herrera battled through a hard-fought second set to nab the straight-sets victory. The righty opened his match with a 6-2 first set but came from behind in set number two to eke out a 7-6 win with a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Ashton Heynes also came up clutch in a tiebreaker but his came in the opening set. The redshirt freshman overcame a deficit in the early going to force a seven-point tiebreaker to decide the first set. The Eagle delivered with a resounding 7-1 win and took that momentum into the second set to pull off the straight-sets victory.

A pair of Eagles stayed perfect on the 2022 season in singles play. Sedeno moved to 9-0, while Hein nabbed his sixth win without a loss.

Biola will hit the road for its next matchup, facing off against Concordia on Friday at 1:00 pm.
