BU Defeats Short-Handed MTU

The Eagles battled a short-handed Michigan Tech team, making for a quick 4-0 win.

LA MIRADA --- A unique competition took place on Tuesday afternoon, as the Eagles hosted the Michigan Tech Huskies (0-4). The visitors had just four healthy and available players for the match, making for a short 4-0 win for No. 25 Biola (11-1).

With only four opponents, doubles play featured just two matchups. The doubles point was still a best-of-three decision, so the Eagles needed just one-of-two since the third doubles match went down as a forfeit in Biola's favor.

Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia were untouchable on court No. 1. The duo opened things up with a 6-0 set to give Biola a 1-0 lead.

As the match shifted to singles play, the Eagles immediately jumped to three points with courts five and six being forfeited without players available for MTU.

The two teams played to clinch, making the first singles win for BU the finishing blow of the match. It seemed to be a race as to who would grab the win for the Eagle, as all four contests favored BU in the first set.

Ultimately, Alexandria Mann secured the win from the No. 1 spot. The freshman began her match with a 6-3 set one and polished it off with a 6-0 set number two. Mann tacked on her 10th individual win on Tuesday and netted her sixth straight-sets victory in 2022.

A clean sweep of the Huskies improved the BU winning streak to eight, as they hit the halfway mark of the season.

BU will continue play on Wednesday back at the Biola Tennis Center with a matchup against Holy Names at 4:30 pm.
