Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

Consistency is Key

A 12-1 Eagles team looked the part of a rising powerhouse, delivering a 7-0 shutout on Wednesday for their ninth-straight win.

LA MIRADA --- No matter the opponent, the Biola women's tennis squad has been ready for the task at hand. Wednesday's matchup against a short-handed Holy Names Hawks (2-4) team finished in a lopsided 7-0 victory for the hosting Eagles (12-1).

The shutout over the Hawks marked the ninth-straight win for the rolling Eagles. The clean sheet was also the fifth of the year for BU.

HNU came into town on Wednesday with a short-handed lineup. The visitors only had four players available, which meant the Eagles earned one doubles and two singles wins by forfeit.

The big advantage did not waste away, as the Eagles began in doubles play. Needing just one win for the doubles point, court No. 2 jumped ahead quickly for BU. Gaby Carvajal and Ines Diaz owned the court, posting a 6-1 triumph.

A 3-0 lead for Biola was too much for HNU to overcome. BU collected three straight-set wins in singles play to clinch the match and capped the day off with a three-set thriller. Colbeyshae Emery and Brooke Fager were the quickest to finish, dropping four games combined to sweep their opponents.

Carly Chan nabbed her own straight-sets victory on court No. 4. The freshman tacked on her second win of the 2022 campaign and her first from the No. 4 spot.

A tighter battle took place on court No. 2, as Lilly McNeill and Lada Baglaeva went back-and-forth. Set one was closely played but HNU pulled ahead to nab the early lead in the match. McNeill responded with a dominant set number two, winning 6-2.

With the match clinched for Biola, the two raced to 10 points for a shortened third set. Neither player could gain much separation but it was McNeill who delivered and pulled out the 10-8 triumph. The narrow victory for McNeill secured the BU shutout, while extending her team-best singles winning streak to seven-straight matches.

Biola will look to maintain its strong play on Saturday in a road contest against Concordia at 11:00 am.
