The Biola men’s tennis team nabbed win number six in a row with a victory over Michigan Tech on Tuesday.

March 08, 2022

Box Score LA MIRADA --- Biola continued its non-conference slate on Tuesday, playing host to the Michigan Tech Huskies (0-4). The Eagles (9-2) were quick to the trigger in a 7-0 shutout for their sixth-straight triumph.

The 19th-ranked Eagles came to play with convincing victories across the board. The first four points of the afternoon went the way of the hosting team, as they secured the win with the doubles point and three straight-set singles wins.

Doubles play looked similar across the three courts to start the competition. The No. 1 and No. 2 spots finished in order with BU taking both by a 6-1 margin. Court number three still played out their set and completed the clean sweep with a 6-2 win from Callen Hein and Isaac Cordova.

Alexei Prokopchuk maintained the pace for Biola, giving up one game on the way to a two-set win. The 6-1, 6-0 rout marked the 10th singles victory for the sophomore on the season and his seventh-straight win.

Hein and Sebastian Herrera followed with comfortable victories to give BU its third and fourth points for the match. Neither Eagle gave up more than two games in a set, helping Biola clinch the contest. Hein remained perfect in singles with the win, going 5-0 so far this year.

The next two to finish were Antonio Rosales Varona and Isaac Cordova from the No. 3 and No. 5 spots, respectively. Both athletes played tightly with their opponents but still managed to take their respective matches in straight-sets.

The 6-0 Biola lead was safe and sound but the Eagles were not done. Alex Sedeno fought through a set one loss to battle back. In set number two, Sedeno was still in trouble down 6-5 but overcame the deficit and forced a decisive third set. The two competitors raced to 10 points with Sedeno reaching the threshold first to maintain the Tuesday shutout, 7-0.

BU will be right back on the court at the Biola Tennis Center on Wednesday in a matchup against Holy Names at 2:00 pm.
