Box Score
PASADENA, Calif. — Biola Women's Water Polo is learning how to play with the lead for a full 32 minutes, and it got another opportunity to do just that on Saturday. The Eagles went on top with some early scoring, extended their lead with one long run and then held on at the end to grab a 13-9 win over Chapman on day two of the Claremont Convergence tournament.

Head Coach Sarah Orozco's squad scored the first two tallies of the contest, before ceding a pair of 6-on-5 scores to the opposition to allow things to tie back at two in the first period.

Playing disciplined on defense was not a strong suit for Biola early on, leading to the 2-2 tied score remaining in place at the first intermission. BU gave up four exclusions in the first period to just two by Chapman.

Biola scored first in the second frame and then back-to-back scores by Maria Roldan Gonzalez and Hanna Jordan opened up the biggest lead thus far at 6-3.

Unfortunately, a late score on the final possession of the second quarter allowed Chapman to tighten it to 6-4 headed into the halftime break. Once again, the score came during a 6-on-5 scenario for the Panthers.

The Eagles surged out of halftime, which is when they accomplished their longest run of scoring throughout the game. BU put in four-consecutive goals to begin the third period, making for a comfortable 10-4 advantage.

The last of those tallies came via Christina Cervantes. She scored two in a row for Biola, helping the team head into the final period of play boasting an 11-6 advantage.

That big lead would pay dividends during a fourth quarter that was a bit of a struggle for BU. The Eagles were actually out-scored in this period by Chapman, mostly due to mounting turnovers and empty possessions late in the game.

It was as tight as 12-9, but the Veralie Naranjo put home a power play goal at the closing buzzer to finish the game out at 13-9 Eagles and another BU win.

Hanna Jordan and Lizzy Birch led the way as both had hat tricks for the Eagles. Jordan was deadly in center for BU, getting good passes to bury point blank shots on several occasions.

Cervantes and Ava LoBue both had a pair of scores and LoBue won a pair of sprints for the Eagles. BU again went 4-for-4 on sprints to set them up for success each quarter. The Eagles were 4-for-4 in yesterday's opener as well.

Biola finishes off its road trip with a 5 p.m. match Saturday evening against Occidental. The match will be played at De Mandel Aquatics Center at Occidental.
