Keep It RUNning

Biola gets a second-straight run-rule victory over Chaminade to clinch series win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — For the second time in as many tries against the Chaminade Silverswords, Biola Softball managed to earn a run-rule victory. The Eagles closed this one out with a walk-off hit in the sixth inning to take Saturday's game one, 8-0.

It was a Kaitlyn Hawkins single that pushed Jennifer Morinishi across home plate in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early with just a pair of sixth-inning Eagles' outs.

There were no big hits in that final inning, just a whole lot of little ones. The Eagles had five singles in the sixth inning to extend what was a 5-0 lead into the early final of 8-0.

Allie Beck had the other run-producing hit in the inning as she came up with the bases loaded and singled to center field to push home Rilee Ruvalcaba and Hailey Paull.

The five hits in the sixth inning were just under half of the total hits for BU in the game as they once again found double figures with 12 hits spread across the 5.2 innings.

Five of the 12 hits were for extra-bases, including four doubles and Sicili Brittingham's big fly. The homerun for Brittingham was the second of her Biola career and first since the 2020 season.

She hit a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning to open the scoring for Biola. The Eagles then extended from 1-0 to 5-0 in the second inning with four individual single-run producing batted balls.

Morinishi and Paull pushed across the first two runs of that second inning with a pair of doubles. Morinishi herself would score on an error by the left fielder and then the inning's final run came across when Brittingham kept her hot streak going with another RBI hit.

Paige Austin went the distance to get her 10th win of the year. She was once again completely dominant in allowing only two hits to the 'Swords. She struck out seven and issued only one walk in a typical excellent effort for her team.

The top of the lineup was once again locked in for the Eagles as batters one through three each accounted for two hits. Hailey Paull had a day from the eight-spot also, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice for her team.

The win ensured a series victory for the Eagles as they took the first three games against CUH. The two sides play once more at Freedom Field on Saturday at about 2:15 p.m.
