LA VERNE, Calif. — Biola Women's Water Polo jumped back in the water on Thursday for a pair of scheduled non-conference tilts against NAIA school Ottawa (Ariz.) and the hosts the University of La Verne. 

Biola took care of business in game one against Ottawa, winning 17-10 in a game that was a tale of two completely different halves. Offense was hard to come by in the first 16 minutes as the two teams combined for just nine total goals, but an explosive third period changed the game into a high-scoring affair.

The Eagles netted three goals in the first and three goals in the second and then matched their first half goal output (6) in the third and followed that up with a five-goal fourth period. The BU team made 53 percent of their total shots in the match, tallying a score on 17 of 32 shots.

Ottawa was able to keep pace with the Biola scoring in the third period after a paltry first half for the Spirit. They came close to also doubling their first-half goal total (6) in the third 8-minute stanza where they scored five times.

The closest OUAZ came throughout the second half was a three-goal differential at 8-5 and 11-8. Outside of that, it was all Biola all game long after back-to-back goals from Rachel Spadt and Maria Roldan Gonzalez gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at 2-1.

A five-goal scoring run between the six-minute mark in the second quarter and the 6:54 mark in the third quarter was the start of BU really putting distance between itself and the Spirit. Five different Biolans scored for Head Coach Sarah Orozco during that dominant stretch.

Biola would ice the game with a four-goal scoring streak to turn a 13-9 match into a dominant 17-9 showing. Hanna Jordan scored half of those four goals to account for two of her three total scores in the game. 

Spadt and Roldan Golzalez each scored four times to tie for the team lead in goals and points. Spadt ended the game with a perfect shooting percentage at 4-for-4. Roldan Gonzalez was nearly as good, netting four of her five chances throughout the 36 minutes.

The win pushes Biola to 8-13 overall. Up next is a 3 p.m. match against the hosting Leopards (10-8). Following today's action the Eagles await their home match against CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday.
