Blossey, Beck Induce Walk-Off Win

A whale of a game from Madison Blossey and walk-off hit from Allie Beck get a win for BU.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh Paige Austin's father predicted Allie Beck would lace one up the middle to walk it off for Biola.

Lo and behold, that is exactly what happened during game one of the doubleheader with Hawaii Pacific at Freedom Field on Tuesday. Both teams scored a single run early in the contest and then had a bunch of zeros piled on until the decisive bottom of the seventh. Madison Blossey started the walk-off party for Biola by singling with one out. She had a stellar game for Biola, going 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and also being the one to score the game-winning run.

After Blossey's single Hailey Paull and Rilee Ruvalcaba had back-to-back one-base hits to load the bases for the top of Biola's lineup with still just one out in the frame.

After Jennifer Morinishi was retired that brought up Allie Beck representing Biola's final hope to avoid extra innings. Beck had been hitless in her last seven at-bats and had just three hits in her last 27 chances at the plate. None of that mattered though as she hit one of her trademark singles up the middle to win the ballgame for Biola.

It was a triumphant moment for Beck and one that brought the entire team streaming out of the dugout to issue her congratulations and celebratory hugs.

Before that finish the highlight of the game was the pitchers' ability to work their way out jams all throughout the game. The final score of 2-1 indicates a pitchers' duel throughout, but base runners were not necessarily scarce in this one.

The Sharks stranded six runners on base in this one. Perhaps the mose pressure-packed situation for Austin was the top of the sixth when the lead-off batter singled and reached second on an error. She advanced to third on a passed ball to be 60 feet away with still three outs to get.

Austin managed a lineuout to Hailey Paull and then back-to-back strikeouts to wiggle out of danger. Biola went down in order in the sixth inning, but then made the most of their opportunity to walk it off in the seventh. HPU's pitcher was in full control up until that seventh inning, setting 10 Eagles down in order right before Blossey got that rally-inducing base-hit.

The win allowed Biola to ensure at minimum a split in this four-game series. The Eagles and Sharks have one more go at each other, starting at about 4:45 on Tuesday. Follow that game at https://team1sports.com/biola/.
