Biola had the winning run on base and tying run on third, but fall short vs. HPU.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. — Following some walk-off heroics in game one, Biola Softball managed to put itself in a situation to walk it off once more in game two as they trailed by one with runners on second and third and just one out in the game's final frame.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the ball did not bounce their way in the final contest of the four-game set with Hawaii Pacific and the Sharks moved on with a 3-2 victory to split the series.

Like game one, Biola took a 1-0 lead in game two as it opened the scoring with some small ball in the third inning. An Allie Beck sacrifice bunt and Brie Nowak sacrifice fly manufactured a run for Rilee Ruvalcaba and had the Eagles dreaming of a sweep.

The dream was cut short when HPU managed a single run in both the top of the fourth and top of the fifth to take their first lead at 2-1. The fifth inning run that secured the lead came with some level of uneasiness as the Sharks were granted the run on an interference call at home plate.

It was a play that had the feel of one that could tilt the scales of a close, competitive game because HPU had already begun that inning with a double, single, successful sacrifice bunt and then this play at the plate which resulted in no out and a run scored.

Raylene Roybal, though, dug deep and got a sharp line out to right field and a ground ball out to Rilee Ruvalcaba to get out of the jam and limit the advantage to just one run.

HPU added one more and were on the way to blowing that lead up in the top of the seventh via back-to-back doubles and a string of three-straight hits occurred after the leadoff batter was retired on a groundout to third.

That offensive burst forced Head Coach Kristin Halte to bring in Jennifer Morinishi from center field to the pitching circle where she'd get two immediate outs and send the Eagles into the dugout to try and win the ballgame.

Sicily Brittingham began the seventh inning with a serious spark as she hit a two-base hit to the right-center gap. After Madison Blossey walked the Eagles were in a situation where they had the game-tying run on base with nobody out.

A groundout advanced the two runners to second and third and brought up the Eagles' top of the lineup. Morinishi singled up the middle to score Brittingham and then made it to second base on the throw to have the walk-off winning run in scoring position for the game one hero, Allie Beck.

HPU's pitcher would find the pitches she needed to set down Beck and Brie Nowak on back-to-back grounders to end the game. All day long the groundout was effective for HPU's winning pitcher, Maliah Torres.

She induced three twin killings by her team, including two which ended innings. Additionally, of the 21 outs she recorded 15 came by way of a groundout.

The loss made for an even 2-2 split between these teams over the course of Monday and Tuesday. The Eagles finish the series with a 13-12 overall record and 8-8 mark in PacWest play.

Up next for BU is visiting Chaminade who plays a four-game series at Freedom Field on Friday and Saturday this week. The Silverswords are 10-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play. They are fresh off an 0-4 mark at Concordia Irvine (28-0), but were competitive in all four games.
