Box Score
SEASIDE, Calif. — Biola Women's Water Polo picked up its first-ever Western Water Polo Association victory on Friday night in an evening matchup at the CSU Monterey Bay Otters.

The Eagles used a fourth-quarter comeback to swipe a one-goal victory from CSUMB, 10-9. The win came in about as thrilling a fashion as possible, using Hanna Jordan's final second score to get the victory.

It was the second-consecutive one-goal loss for CSUMB, which dropped to 1-12 on the year following the result. The Eagles had just about as close a contest their last time out also, winning by two against CSU East Bay last weekend before tonight's adrenaline-pumping contest.

The Eagles established themselves early on by scoring two in a row to start the game as Kourtney Pyle and Veralie Naranjo scored almost back-to-back.

Aside from the 2-0 advantage, and a later 3-1 advantage, there was no other point in this match where either team led by more than a single score. Biola was the only team to hold a lead in the first half, leading 4-3 at one point and then 5-4 as the half came to a close.

Both Pyle and Naranjo had a pair of first-half scores to pace the effort.

The Otters took their first lead of the match two minutes and seven seconds into the third quarter, using back-to-back tallies coming out of halftime to stake a 6-5 advantage.

Similar to Biola's lead management in the first half, CSUMB was steady at defending that lead for much of half two. The Otters led 6-5, 7-6, 8-7 and 9-8 until Biola got a late jolt to come from behind for the win.

Maria Roldan Gonzalez tickled the twine with 3:26 to play, making it a brand new match for both sides. That tie remained in effect until the graduate student and team leader Hanna Jordan scored with just one second remaining on the clock.

Jordan was one of four Eagles to score two goals in the game as she and Spadt joined Pyle and Naranjo with that distinction.

The Eagles improved to 7-12 with the win and are back in action again on Saturday. Biola will conclude its road swing with a 1 p.m. match at CSU East Bay (7-12), who it's already split with this year in two meetings.
