LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Steady scoring allowed Biola Women's Water Polo to remain competitive with No. 18 Princeton throughout the match as the two sides met at LMU on Friday.

The Eagles scored at least two goals in every period and out-scored the opposition in the third period en route to the eventual 16-9 loss to the NCAA Division I Tigers.

Biola had to once again dig itself out of a bit of a hole as the opponents had a hot start. Princeton notched eight goals in the first eight minutes, powered by a run of five in a row between 5:24 and 1:48 to lead 8-2 after one period.

Biola did not let that early outbreak faze them. It's the second such lopsided first period in as many matches played on Friday. It's not typical for Biola to give up such fast starts, as coming into the day Biola was actually outscoring its opponents 40-37 in the first period.

The scoring run continued for Princeton into the second period as the Tigers extended the lead to 11-2 before newly-minted WWPA Player of the Week Hanna Jordan found the twine for the first time since it was 3-2.

Jordan actually would score two in a row and then Kourtney Pyle added another as the Eagles pulled it back to 11-5. Biola would actually outscore Princeton 5-2 through the latter parts of the second period and all of the third period to get all the way back to 13-7. 

It was a Veralie Naranjo score on a power play with :53 left in the third that had Biola pushing the issue with the East Coast giant.

The Tigers scored first in the fourth, but then back-to-back tallies by Rachel Spadt and Jordan again tightened it by one more goal to 14-9 with 3:31 to play. Princeton scored two more goals as time ran out to lock up their 16th win of the season.

Biola was led by Jordan's three-goal effort with Naranjo and Pyle each adding two a piece. Ava LoBue had a pair of assists for a multi-point game of her own.

The Eagles drop to 5-11 with the loss, but they've got a new chance to bounce back on Saturday with two more challenging matches due up. First up will be a contest against the tournament hosts, No. 18 Loyola Marymount (8-7) at 10 a.m.
