Immediate Impact

Stephanie Lee and Amiah Simmons pulled in All-PacWest accolades with Tuesday’s announcement.

March 01, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. --- With the regular season all wrapped up and as teams prepare for the upcoming PacWest Tournament, the conference offices released the postseason women's basketball All-PacWest awards.

Amiah Simmons was named PacWest Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-PacWest to highlight the list for BU. Stephanie Lee added to the Biola honors with a Third Team All-PacWest selection on Tuesday.

The Eagles put together a solid 2021-22 campaign with a 17-10 overall record and a 13-7 PacWest mark. The team offered up a strong run near the end of the season, taking down Point Loma twice and Azusa Pacific to help secure the fifth seed at the PacWest Tournament in Fresno.

Simmons was the offensive spark for the Eagles throughout the season. The freshman earned the PacWest Player of the Week award twice this season, while averaging 17.3 points per game. The offensive electricity was evident from day one, as she started her career with eight-straight double-digit scoring efforts, including six 20-point performances within that stretch.

The lefty slasher found a way to impact the game as a whole with two double-doubles. On the year, Simmons ranked amongst the top-100 in the nation and top-five in the conference in field goals made, field goal percentage and points per game. In nearly half of her games, Simmons tacked on at least 20 points, posting 10 such performances.

Lee scored her second postseason All-PacWest selection in the same number of years with Tuesday's announcement. The BU veteran has been a leader on and off the court, giving the ultimate effort on offense and defense.

The senior was excellent from beyond the arc, ranking 24th in the nation and second in the conference with 67 long balls. Lee matched volume with efficiency, hitting those three-pointers at a 36.0 percent clip.  In 2021-22, she collected 14 double-digit scoring performances, including three 20-point outings.

The Eagles and head coach Alan Nakamura will be looking for a major impact from Simmons and Lee as they transition to postseason play. The team will get started with a first round matchup against fourth-seeded Concordia Eagles.

The two squads will face off for the third time this year after splitting their two regular season bouts. The home team was the victor in each contest but their tourney matchup will be on a neutral court in Fresno. Simmons notched double-digit scoring efforts in both regular season games and will look to maintain the scoring pace on Thursday.

Follow the action through the tournament central page and tune into the live stream and live stats for Thursday's contest at 5:00 pm.
