Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Smooth Sailing

Biola makes quick work of Redlands in its regular season home opener.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — For the second-straight day Biola Men's Tennis flexed its muscle against a local NCAA Division III opponent. Coach Goodman's team, under the leadership of the assistant coaches, made quick work of visiting Redlands in Saturday's regular season home opener.

Biola picked up a 7-0 victory to follow a 7-2 win at Caltech yesterday evening. It's the second time in the last three seasons this team's gotten off to a 2-0 start.

The Eagles swept through doubles to pick up the first point of the morning utilizing 6-2 wins at the top pairings and getting a 6-3 success courtesy the No. 3 group of Tomas Gomez and Callen Hein

Biola Men's Tennis is a perfect 6-0 in doubles play to start the young season.

It was a similar tune as the match moved into singles competition. The Eagles didn't drop a single set en route to a flawless 6-0 effort in head-to-head battles.

The closest the Eagles came to seeing a set fall by the wayside was in the first set of the No. 3 and No. 4 flights where both Gomez and Isaac Cordova had to play a little extra to wrap up 7-5 set one wins. Gomez locked up his match by bouncing back with a 6-2 effort in set two, while Codova had to sweat through a 6-4 result in his second stanza.

Hein had the smoothest go of things in singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 to pick up a point for BU. His result was actually the one that clinched the match as well, as he was the third off during singles.

Alexei Prokopchuk is settling in well to the No. 2 spot as he breezed his way to a 6-2, 6-0 victory and was the first one off the court in singles. Despite the overall dominance from BU, Prokopchuk's second set was the only shutout during the morning session.

Sebastian Herrera and Alex Sedeno, along with Prokopchuk, improved to 2-0 in singles play this season with their victories.

Up next for the Eagles is a Hawaiian road trip! Biola will face Hawaii Hilo on the road next week on Friday in its first matchup against a fellow NCAA Division II team.
