Box Score
LA MIRADA, Calif. — A difficult fourth quarter turned a very closely contested game into a runaway win for visiting Concordia Irvine, spoiling home game number two for Head Coach Sarah Orozco's Eagles on Friday afternoon.

Biola had a bevy of fans at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center cheering the team on as it matched up with traditional Biola rival CUI for the first time in the sport of Women's Water Polo.

The Concordia side capitalized first and never lost the lead in this one despite some stretches of strong play from Biola in the second and third periods.

Coach Orozco's Eagles outscored CUI in with four third-period goals to bring the game to just a two-goal game with eight minutes left. However, CUI began the fourth quarter on a man-advantage, scored quickly and never looked back by outsourcing BU 5-1 in the final frame to bring the match to its final resting spot of 15-9.

Biola was not without its chances throughout the day. The Eagles had 33 shots, with many of them coming from a good spot and with an open shooting lane. However, finishing was a problem on Friday for just about everyone except Maria Roldan Gonzalez

Roldan Gonzalez scored five times on six shots, while the rest of the team was just 4-for-27 from the field.  The Spaniard is now second on the team in points with 17 this season. She would've made up more ground on team-leader Veralie Naranjo (20 points), but Veralie chipped in five assists, despite being held scoreless for the first time this season. The CUI starting goalkeeper tallied 15 saves in the game, including 10+ in the first half.

The Eagles spent a lot of time on the power play on Friday, but they struggled to finish even when on the advantage. The team was just 4-for-14 on 6-on-5 chances. They did make two of three five-meter penalty shots though.

CUI was less controlled on defense, but the more controlled and disciplined side on their offensive end. While CUI was +8 on exclusions, they managed to turn the ball over in less dangerous spots than BU throughout the game even though both teams were about even in cough-ups.

The loss will give coach Orozco and the Eagles some areas of focus as they enter into a solid week of practice before heading north to the Fresno State Mini Invite. The Eagles (2-4) do not play again until Feb. 18-19 when they face Fresno State (3-5), Pacific (0-4) and San Jose State (6-3).
