IRVINE, Calif. --- A Monday announcement recognized Alexei Prokopchuk's stellar play on the tennis court with a PacWest weekly honor. The conference named the BU star the player of the week, following an undefeated week on the court.

Prokophcuk and the Eagles went 2-0 last week, defeating Fresno Pacific and Point Loma without much resistance. BU allowed one point combined between the two matchups in back-to-back competitions at the Biola Tennis Center.

The junior transcended tennis with his performances in the two wins for BU, overcoming adversity to display the ultimate drive and focus. A trio of wins between singles and doubles play, improved his overall record in 2022 to 9-4.

His first triumph of the week came alongside Antonio Rosales Varona to help BU take the doubles point against FPU. The duo cruised on court No. 1 with a dominant 6-2 showing.

Singles play saw similar results for Prokopchuk against the Sunbirds. The righty earned a point for the Eagles, assisting in the shutout with a 6-3, 6-2 showing. Prokopchuk faced a tougher contest on Saturday, dropping the first set against PLNU in a 7-3 tiebreaker. The second and third set brought a determined and dominant BU player, as Prokopchuk went on to give up just one game through the next two sets. The three-set win marked his sixth individual win of 2022 and moved his singles record to 6-1.

The PacWest weekly honor is the first of the season for Prokopchuk and the second overall for Biola tennis.

BU will be back in action on Tuesday against Hope International at home at 2:00 pm.
