Seventh Inning Spectacular

The Eagles piled on 15 runs in the seventh inning between the two games of their doubleheader against Holy Names.

February 26, 2022

Box Score OAKLAND, Calif. --- A sweep was completed for the Biola Eagles (5-5, 2-0 PacWest) on Saturday night, as they finished off game two with a 11-8 advantage. The seventh inning was a nightmare for the hosting Holy Names Hawks (7-8, 0-2 PacWest), who gave up 15 runs to BU in the seventh combined between the two games.

In similar fashion to game one, the seventh frame began with pitch control problems for HNU. Three-straight walks loaded the bases, following great at bats from the Eagles. Rylan Greenlee and Tyler White each logged RBI base hits to keep the rally going. Rhett Stein cleaned it all up with a three-run bomb, scoring the first seven hitters that came to the plate in the frame.

The scoring explosion put the visiting Eagles up, 10-5 with three innings left on defense. Immediately, the Hawks made up ground with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Two two-out hits brought home all three runs, making it a two-run BU lead.

Carson Cody and Tyler Mead teamed up to toss the last six outs of the game for BU. Cody blanked the Hawks in the eighth, allowing one base runner by way of an error, before forcing the next batter to hit into a double play. Mead picked up the save with the closer work in the ninth, grabbing two strikeouts.

Tyler Baca impressed with his bat, collecting four hits through six at bats. The centerfielder held the leadoff spot in the lineup, while showing off his speed with a pair of steals.

Biola was patient at the plate throughout the contest. As a team, BU drew 12 walks and forced HNU's starting pitcher to throw 126 pitches through six innings.

The two teams will return to the diamond on Sunday for another doubleheader set to begin at 12:00 pm.
