2022 Kickoff at Pomona-Pitzer

The Biola Track and Field squads saw the start of their 2022 season on Saturday, turning in impressive performances at Pomona-Pitzer.

CLAREMONT, Calif --- The Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers played host to the Biola Eagles first track and field competition of the 2022 season on Saturday. The BU squad showed up and showed out, offering up six event wins.


Biola found quite a bit of success in the jumps on opening weekend. On the men's side Cole Muller and Joshua Jackson were dominant between the long and triple jumps. Muller tackled the long jump, taking first place with a mark of 6.75m, while Jackson grabbed third at 6.54m. In the triple jump, Jackson outdid the rest of the competition, landing a jump of 13.85m for the event win.

Kristin Belle took care of business on the women's side. Belle also took first place for the Eagles, logging a 5.30m mark in the long jump. Anna Willson followed in fourth place with a jump of 4.95m, while also placing fourth in the triple jump at 10.12m. In the high jump, four Eagles fell within the top-10 in the event, including Hanna Bevan (5th), Rebeka Preston (7th), Belle (7th) and Olivia Doyle (9th).

On the track, Lynette Ruiz cruised past her opponents to post a first place finish in the mile run. The freshman won her final by two seconds, finishing with a time of 5:09.20. Hannah Champness added a third place finish for BU at 5:12.60. The long distance prowess of Biola showed in the mile event with five top-10 placements.

The Eagles relays also did well on Saturday. The women's 4x400 relay highlighted the day, scoring a first place finish with a time of 4:03.22. Robin Ahlquist, Sophia Morris, Heidi Sowers and Shelby Rogers tag-teamed the race to post the top finish. The men notched second place in the same event, coming in at a time of 3:26.74, thanks to the speed of John Carswell, Trevor Hormel, Worthy Gutierrez and Mathias Davis. 

Preston, Morris and Sowers impressed individually in the two hurdle events on Saturday. Morris came in second in the 400m hurdles, notching a time of 1:06.38. Preston and Sowers tacked on top-10 finishes in the 100m hurdles with marks of 15.38 and 15.45, respectively.

In addition to helping the relay squad, Davis completed an excellent individual time in the 400 meter race. Davis took third in the event at 49.76 and was followed by teammate Dillon Sunday, who grabbed eighth at 51.47.

Brady DeHaven added a sixth place finish for the Eagles, tallying a 8:38.79 time in the 3,000m run.

In the 200m sprint, Rogers posted a top-five placement with a time of 25.16.

The field events featured an inspired effort from Jada Pierce and company. Pierce won the hammer throw event with a toss of 41.30m, before offering up a shot put throw of 10.78m for fourth place. Gigi Fierro added to the mix with a seventh place toss in the shot put (10.20m) and a fourth place performance in the hammer throw (37.21m). 

Troy Yarter competed in the javelin throw and came in fourth with a mark of 51.24m. In the women's pole vault, Reanna Maroon added a top-five placement for BU with a mark of 3.35m.

BU will return to action at the Long Beach Opener on March 4-5.
