Biola Softball breaks out the bats in a big way with 8-0 win over Westcliff.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Freedom Field continued to be home sweet home for Biola Softball in 2022 as the Eagles picked up their first run-rule victory of the new season in game one against Westcliff on Friday.

The Warriors came to Biola for what is just their second day of competition as a collegiate program. The Warriors drew the short straw of having to face Paige Austin in game one, while the Eagles' senior stud continued her sensational start.

The Eagles' bats needed just four trips to the plate to pile on eight runs and earn the 8-0 victory over four-and-a-half innings played. The key hit was what started it all as freshman Bridgette Trujillo hit a big blast over the right-center field fence to put BU up 3-0 in the first inning.
Biola added two more in the bottom of the second inning thanks to continued production from the deadly duo of Allie Beck and Jennifer Morninishi at the top of the lineup. The two outfielders had a pair of RBI hits to advance the game to 5-0 before Westcliff would even manage a hit off Austin.

The Eagles' starter was dealing and set down the first 10 Westcliff hitters in order before a double to the base of the fence in dead center got them off the schneid. That double would be it for Westcliff's offense as they got no one else on board through 4.1 innings from Austin and a perfect two outs from Kylee Messmer in relief.

The Eagles continued to pursue the run-rule margin needed through the third and fourth innings with a pair of scores in the third and the deciding one in the fourth. Madison Blossey extended out her team-lead in RBI with a two-run single in the fourth to make it 7-0.
Then, the eighth run was a two-out score by Allie Beck who legged out an infield single, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on an Abie Nowak flyout and then scored on a wild pitch.

Austin improves to 4-0 with the win. She logged 10 strikeouts in just 4.2 innings pitched. The senior has double-digit strikeouts in each of her four outings to start 2022.

Beck and Morinishi both racked up two hits in this one as Biola compiled nine hits overall. It's Morinishi's fourth multi-hit game this season. She, Beck and Abie Nowak are both now sitting on four-game hitting streaks.

The Eagles (4-2) and Warriors (0-3) have a second game slated for a 6 p.m. start Friday at Freedom Field.
