Painting a Masterpiece

BU worked wonderfully near the basket on the way to a dominant showing against Concordia at home.

LA MIRADA --- The Eagles were quick to return to the winning column, claiming a 20-point victory on Saturday night. The Biola men's basketball team (7-3, 3-1 PacWest) hosted Concordia Golden Eagles (2-7, 1-3 PacWest) and put on a show offensively and defensively. The final score represented the rout for BU, as the host squad earned a 83-63 triumph.

A short-handed Eagles squad was stout across the board on Saturday on the way to the win. BU outdid the visitors in field goal and free throw percentage, rebounds, blocks, steals, and points in the paint.

Biola had an apparent mindset on offense in the first half and it worked. The goal was to get inside and dominate in the paint. The goal was accomplished with 40 points in the paint, while shooting 62.5 percent from the field.

The Eagles took just four shots from outside the painted area with none finding the bottom of the net. The lone point that came outside the paint was a single free throw from Daniel Esparza.

Tyus Parrish-Tillman did well with his back to the basket, piling in eight points in the first half of his first collegiate start. Esparza was cooking on the drive, netting clean floaters just inside the top of the key. The sophomore finished the first 20 minutes of action with 13 points.

Throughout the night, CUI struggled to get going on the offensive end. The Golden Eagles tried multiple different lineups and play styles but the BU defense held strong. Biola kept the CUI offense one-dimensional, working primarily through Lance Coleman.

After building a double-digit lead in the first half, the Eagles were set on cementing their advantage as the clock continued to tick. A four-minute stretch nearly doubled the edge for Biola, as the team tallied a 14-2 run. BU's aggressiveness inside the paint led to eight free throws in the rally and the Eagles climbed to a 59-33 lead.

The BU advantage hit a game-high at 30 points with just under four minutes left in the contest. The team would coast in for the 83-63 finish.

Five Eagles reached at least 10 points on Saturday with the well-rounded offensive attack. Maximo Milovich logged a double-double for Biola with 11 points and 10 boards. Parrish-Tillman nabbed a season-high 14 points, while coming up one rebound short of a double-double and adding three blocks. Casey Cappo offered an efficient performance with 12 points through 16 minutes on the court.

On the day, Biola collected a total of 54 points in the paint, while taking 43 shot attempts inside.

Biola will start a two-game road trip next Saturday, as it heads north to take on Dominican at 3:30 pm.
