Eagles Put Up a Fight

The women’s basketball team put up a fight in their 65-52 loss against CSU San Bernardino at the Coussoulis Arena.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.---Jordan Rabe and Aysia Johnson highlighted the Biola Women's Basketball team in their 65-52 loss to the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes at the Coussoulis Arena.

Rabe was in the zone, posting 20 points against CSUSB. Johnson was also in a rhythm tonight making her first double-double of the 2022-23 season and third of her career.

Biola is now 0-4 against their non-conference opponents, with a chance to make it up against Alaska Anchorage before beginning conference play on Friday, November 25 against Fresno Pacific.

"We stuck together as a team," reflected team captain Laila Walker. "There were certain moments in crunch time where we couldn't convert and that was our downfall. We are progressing in each and every game and I only see us improving as we go."

The first quarter was closely fought between the Coyotes and Eagles. CSU San Bernardino led just by three points going into the second quarter.

Biola hit a rut in the second where the Coyotes distanced themselves by 11 points. After the break, Biola came back with a big statement of 22 points. Eleni Cabrera came off the bench and dazzled the court with eight points. Behind her was Johnson with six points, Rabe with four and Walker and Jessa Thurman with two apiece.

Biola's efforts got them within a five-point reach heading into the fourth (46-41).

BU had another strong showing in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Coyotes who eventually won 65-52. Rabe put up an impressive 10 points in the final frame.

Johnson-Johnson…Johnson scored her third double-double of her career with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Senior Guard also had two steals and a block in an overall strong defensive performance.

Points Leader…Rabe led the Eagles with 20 points followed by Johnson (12), Cabrera (9), and Thurman (6).

Up Next…The Eagles will head up to Alaska to play Alaska Anchorage on Friday, November 25 at 8 p.m. PT.
