Soccer Smarties

Biola had six women’s soccer players on the College Sports Communicator’s Academic All-District Team.

GREENWOOD, Ind.---The Biola Women's Soccer team had six Academic All-District Team selections as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators.

To be eligible student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve who played in at least 50 percent of their teams games with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. Athletes must have also been at their institution for at least 12 months to be eligible, unless they are a graduate student. 

Frances Andrade, Anna Boyer, Abby Chavez, Mason Stansberry, Jess Hase, and Rachel Melvin represented Biola as Academic All-District selections.

Andrade has a 3.8 cumulative GPA in business administration. The Senior Midfielder was a Second Team All-PacWest pick who played a team-high of 1,409 minutes. Andrade scored her first career goal this season. 

Boyer has a 3.7 cumulative GPA in kinesiology. The Sophomore Goalkeeper played 765 minutes for Biola where she recorded 40 saves and a 1.53 goals against average. Boyer also received PacWest Defender of the Week where she had a shutout against Dominican and totaled six saves against DU and ART U.

Chavez has a  3.7 cumulative GPA in nursing. The Redshirt-Sophomore had two goals and had two assists this season as a key forward for the Eagles.

Stansberry is another forward who received scholar recognition. Stansberry has a 3.7 cumulative GPA in ​​bible, theology, and ministry. Stansberry scored two goals and had an assist this season for BU.

Hase and Melvin are the Eagles' final two Academic All-District players. Hase and Melvin are both key defenders representing Biola on the Academic All-District teams.

Melvin is a senior with a 3.9 cumulative GPA in kinesiology. Melvin totaled 1,320 minutes, playing 90 minutes in 12 matches. Melvin also contributed an assist from the Eagles' backline. 

Hase, a redshirt-sophomore, has a 3.8 GPA in kinesiology. Hase accumulated 1,389 minutes, playing 90 minutes in 13 matches for Biola.

WHAT'S NEXT?
All-District selections will be move on and be voted on for Academic All-America. The Academic All-American team will be released on Tuesday, December 6.
