Eagles Prepare

The men's soccer team is preparing to face Midwestern State on Friday.

November 10, 2022

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—The Biola University Men's Soccer Team is in Texas getting ready to compete in the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships against the seventh-seeded Midwestern State Mustangs.

WHO IS MIDWESTERN?
Midwestern State is one of 10 teams in the Lone Star Conference. Midwestern finished their regular season 12-5-3 and 4-5 in the Lone Star, which translated to a sixth-place seeding in their end of the year Lone Star Conference Championship. In the Lone Star, the top six teams in the conference advance to their conference championship where the winner is deemed the conference champion and receives the conference's automatic qualifier bid.

The No. 6 Mustangs were the underdogs of the conference tournament who went on to win the championship and claim the Lone Stars' AQ.

HOW DO WE COMPARE?
Midwestern and Biola have not played any common opponents this season, but combined have played Super Region 4's first and second seeded teams. Biola played Cal State LA in the very beginning of their season where they had a narrow 4-3 loss against the first-seeded Golden Eagles. Midwestern faced No. 2 St. Mary's (TX) during conference play and lost 2-0 to the Rattlers.

In terms of conference postseason recognition, Midwestern had six selections (with one player of the year) while Biola had nine selections, including four of the PacWest's five players of the year.

WHEN IS KICKOFF?
The Eagles and Mustangs will kick off on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. PT (3 p.m. CT) at St. Mary's Sigma Beta Chi Field.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The winner will continue to the second round of the NCAA DII Men's Soccer Championships and play St. Mary's (TX) who received a bye for the first round as the top-seeded team. The second-round game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. PT (3 p.m. CT) at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
